Illustration of Azimuth biasing

Azimuth baising is caused by the alignment of lineaments relative to an illumination source. For remotely sensed imagery this is the sun. This can be modelled through relief shading a digital elevation model (DEM). The following animations are generated from a DEM of Lough Gara, Ireland (©Irish Odnance Survey) and continuously loops from 0-360 degrees.
